Dreams about Being Lost or Trapped

In your dream you are lost, perhaps feeling desperate. You may be trying to find your way in a forest, in city streets, inside a large building, or in some other maze-like structure. The circumstances vary. You may be buried alive, or caught in a web or a cage, or trapped in some other manner, usually feeling terrified.

Lost or trapped dreams are common. Some people have them frequently, others only in crisis. They typically occur when you feel great confusion or conflict about how to act in some waking situation.

Usual meanings: You maybe feeling lost, trapped or confused by something, that you've lost your way and don't know what to do or where to turn. This links with feelings of uncertainty, lack of direction or conflict, of not understanding what is involved in the present situation you are in. The dream environment you are lost in will define what the confusion or conflict connects with. Sometimes this lost feeling arises because there are issues or changes in your life you have not acknowledged or do not want to acknowledge.

Questions to ask yourself:

Being lost variation:
Where were you trying to go in the dream? Home? School? Business?
Where did you become lost? What is it about the area in which you became lost that was most disturbing?
What circumstances seemed to lead you astray?
What action did you take to find your way in the dream?
What area of life is currently mystifying to you?

Being trapped variation:
Where did you become stuck in the dream?
What is restricting your movement?
How did you try to rescue yourself in the dream?
What waking situation in your waking life does this remind you of?

I had a dream the other night that I was lost in a hotel. I was a "female escort" and I couldn't find the hotel room I was supposed to be in. I went up an elevator and when the elevator stopped, the lights went out which scared me. So when the doors opened I ran away and tried to find some stairs. While I was running around this hotel I became aware of a corporate Christmas party and everyone at the party staring at me with disgust. I looked down and realized I was wearing a pink negligee and nothing else. I found stairs and went down to the next floor where more people were standing around. I couldn't find any more stairs. I never left the lobby. This is where my dream ended. I can't figure out why I'd feel lost in real life or what the "Female escort" thing has to do with it. Please help.

Anonymous, the hotel in your dream represent the new areas of yourself: attitudes in yourself that may not be permanent. It also represents the states of mind or being in which you are temporary “housing” or passing through on your way to somewhere else. Your lost at the hotel may reflect a time of uneasiness and depravation.
Being a female escort in your dream may portray the misdirection of love and affection for financial ends. It could also uncover some feelings of sexual inadequacy or desperate sexual needs. Other associations might be: feeling you have 'sold out' or betrayed your real self or real feelings in order to survive. Also it could signify acknowledged sexual longings; feelings of 'cheapness' or guilt in sex; desire to be more free sexually. Wearing negligee in dream suggests a loss of confidence and your positive self image. Being partially undressed can either be anxiety about being revealed, or you are willing to reveal more of what your really feel, and who you really are. It could also mean you may be behaving in ways that do not fit in with your situation.
To dream that you are embarrassed signifies hidden weaknesses and fears. You may feel that your self-confidence has been undermined. This dream also suggests of insecurities about your sexuality.
Stairs in your dream represent many feelings in connection with achievement, failure, climbing and falling. When these feelings also connect with work, relationship, social standing or sex, then we use stairs as a symbol of what we are feeling. Looking for stairs in dream denotes your search for above mentioned feelings.

Well first I will tell you about my deja vu. So I have had deja vu many times in my life. The thing is when it happens I remember it from one of my dreams. Example, I am a freshman in high school(7 years ago) and got my first job at this nursey(they sell plants and trees) well what I was doing was rearranging these shrubs and I bend down to pick something up and when I stand up I was looking at the green house. The second that I saw the green house I remembered it came from a dream and it was exactly the way I saw it in my dream. Another time(senior year) I was in gym during finals we didn't do anything except talk. Well what happened was I walked over to where some of my friends were and they were in a circle just talking well when I got there what I was looking at was my friends in a circle just talking about a foot away from me and right then and there I remembered I saw it in my dream and I was freaked out at this because its like I can see the future but don't remember until it happens. really freaky. but now to my dream. I have had a dream about this girl that I was friends with in high school and I liked her alot and some shit happend and now were friends but haven't seen her in like a year. but I have had 3 dreams in a month with her in it and some other people where there but i cant remember them at all just her. I cant remember the one so i'll tell u about the other 2. The first one we were hanging out in this house or apartment with some of my friends (can't name who except for her) i have never been to before. well i was holding her close and it was like we were dating but i never kissed her or anything like that. The second one was last night and it was really strange there was a car chase but the main thing that i remember is that we slept in the same bed again nothing happened just slept and held her. I just need to know what this means cause I'm over her at least I think and I don't know why I am having these dreams and would like to know what they mean. Also after having these dreams I woke up happy that I had these dreams with her. So I guess I am not really over her, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Anonymous, being NAKED in a dream suggests vulnerability and exposure. Are you very guarded and unwilling to let people see the "real" you or are you feeling embarrassment as a result of a mistake or emotional reaction? With this dream the unconscious might be encouraging you to become more open with your feelings and more accessible emotionally. Additionally, if you see yourself naked in inappropriate places, your rebellious side may be coming through and with it some fear that people may not accept you for what you really are.

oh i had a naked dream too. it was that i went to my bus stop with just a towel on and then got on the bus and realized this. i felt so...scared, i guess, and like i was doomed. i guess it's how i'd feel if i wore the same shirt two times in a row, that people'd ridicule me. but it wasnt exactly like that. it was like i did the whole going to school with just a towel on thing a few times in a row, and kept on saying to myself "What am i doing?" each day (in my dream). and then kept on saying to myself "this must be a dream. its just a dream" but somehow didn't believe that it was until i woke up.
ive had dreams like that before too where its like i accidentaly come to school naked or in just my undergarments and feel that same doomed feeling. but sometimes i dont feel doomed sometimes i feel totally relaxed.
so anyways, what does this mean?

Anonymous, you were right, you are not really over her. Your dreams about the girl are just an addition of the thoughts you have about her during the day. Your dream occur naturally from your daytime experiences and thoughts. The unconscious mind incorporates these topics into dreams because it wants to consider them further in the form of symbolic drama.

Anonymous, the perception that you are naked at the bus stop indicate that you need to express and/or release the emotions, worries and fears that you have kept inside. Being naked makes your feel vulnerable and exposed. This may be how you feel if you were to express yourself. Your undergarments in the dream that makes you feel exposed suggesting that some aspect of your waking life is making you vulnerable. The notion that you come to school naked, further suggests that your vulnerability is rooted in a school-related situation. Perhaps you feel inadequate in your school performance.

Hello

My name is Shannon Sultan. Here is what I need to know. What does this dream mean?
It is certainly very interesting. I think it could be related to my friend dying of brain cancer October 15th, but then I am not sure because I have had some of the symptoms myself. I dreamed that I was basically living my life. Except that it was not my ex husband around me, but my first love that I am with now. I dreamed that I was in a hospital and was diagnosed with brain cancer. When being told I was diagnosed, all cancer treatment centers immediately go through my mind, but then out of laziness, I decide not to fight and just go when God calls me. I am not given very long to live. On the day that I am supposed to be dying, I start panicking and start contacting those treatment centers. I'm just in a hysterical panic in this dream about it and I know that I can't do anything about it. yet something is still fighting and has hope. I think I die, but I am not sure because around the end of it I was woken by my 10 months old son. What is the meaning of all of this?

Shannon Sultan,
Hi, it's nice to have you back.
Hospital appears to be a relatively common dream setting. Most of us are in some need of healing. The healing may be physical, psychological, emotional or spiritual. By paying attention to this dream you may be able to identify the source of your pain, and where and how the healing needs to take place. Try not to get upset by your dream, but rather pay attention to its message. Superstition based dream interpretations suggest that if you are the patient, you may be currently overwhelmed by life and should ask others for help.

Simply, your dream portrays a great fear of illness and death. And if you say your friend died due the sickness you have dreamt about, that explains why you actually had this dream. It was a direct result of overwhelming feelings of fear and helplessness, and a result of an unprocessed upsetting experience.

It's dark and I'm in a large body of water with 2 buildings in the middle of nowhere, a women brings two children over to me,a girl & a boy. One is on a float board & the other child is just hanging onto her waist. She just leaves the children with me, their cold & crying & she swims away. The one child is still on the float board but I lost the other one. I then found her & tried to swim to shore but it was to far away, I was yelling for help but it was dark & noone around. I spotted the two buildings & swam between them. We was all very cold & yelling for help & thats when I woke up.
It has me disturbed because the next night I dreamed that I had two children tied with a rope from their waist to my waist & we was crawling through a dangerous part of town & we was seen by these 4 bad men on a corner, I felt I had to say something so I just ask for directions to a street & one of the men said just turn right here & the street you want is at the end. Then he said "you don't have to be afraid of us, we won't bother you, BUT be very careful on this road". next thing I know we are in a big house and we was climbing on a rail with no floor & there was a door at the end. I struggled to get us to that door, I cracked it opened & saw alot of people moving about. Suddenly a close church friend of mine opened the door & said to me, Bobbi what are you doing here? she told me that I needed to get these children out of here. Then I woke up. 2 nights in a row dreaming about 2 children just has me a little disturbed. Can you shed some light on this? Thank you...

Anonymous, your dreams are so-called anxiety dreams. They portray the current state of your mind full of worries, uncertainties and concerns. Children in your dreams could represent your inner self, or the child within. The dream could be based on childhood memories, and it may carry a specific message or bring up long-buried issues.
Swimming in your dream most likely is swimming through the ocean of your unconscious and through the “sea “of your emotions. The ease with which you are doing this activity will give you clues as to how well you are navigating through those very complex parts of yourself. Your dreams link with feelings of confusion, lack of direction or conflict of not understanding what is involved in the present situation you are in.
